Join us as Windlesham Film Club embraces the Halloween season with one of the year's most talked-about releases. The Bride! is a bold, stylish reinvention of one of cinema's most enduring stories, blending gothic fantasy, dark humour, romance, music and crime into a film unlike anything else on this year's programme.
Set against the backdrop of 1930s Chicago, the story follows Frankenstein as he seeks the help of an unconventional scientist to create a companion. But when a murdered young woman is brought back to life as the Bride, events take an unexpected turn. Rather than becoming the obedient creation anyone anticipated, she forges her own path, setting off a chain of events that attracts the attention of the police and sparks a movement that challenges the world around her.
Written and directed by Academy Award-nominated actress and filmmaker Maggie Gyllenhaal, the film features an outstanding ensemble cast including Jessie Buckley, Christian Bale, Penélope Cruz, Annette Bening, Peter Sarsgaard and Jake Gyllenhaal.
Critics have praised its striking visual style, fearless performances and imaginative approach to Mary Shelley's classic tale. With echoes of classic monster movies, gangster films, musicals and romance, it's a cinematic experience designed for the big screen.
Whether you're drawn by the stellar cast, the inventive storytelling or simply fancy something fittingly gothic around Halloween, we'd love you to join us.

Windlesham Film Club - I Swear
A funny, moving and uplifting true story about finding acceptance, understanding and a voice.
Join us at Windlesham Film Club in November for I Swear, the acclaimed British comedy-drama based on the remarkable life of Tourette syndrome campaigner John Davidson.
Diagnosed with Tourette syndrome at the age of 15 in 1980s Scotland, John is growing up at a time when few people understand the condition. Faced with confusion, prejudice and isolation, he struggles not only with his uncontrollable tics but with the way other people react to him.
His life begins to change when he encounters people prepared to look beyond his condition and see John for who he really is. Friendship and acceptance offer him a way forward and, in time, his experiences inspire a new purpose: campaigning to improve understanding of Tourette syndrome.
Robert Aramayo gives a remarkable central performance as John, supported by an outstanding British cast including Shirley Henderson, Peter Mullan and Maxine Peake.
Directed by Kirk Jones (Waking Ned, Nanny McPhee), I Swear handles John's story with warmth, compassion and plenty of humour. It doesn't shy away from the prejudice and difficulties he experienced, but ultimately this is an uplifting story about friendship, resilience and the enormous difference that understanding can make.
John Davidson went on to become a prominent advocate for people with Tourette syndrome, with his campaigning and charitable work recognised with an MBE in 2019.
For those who remember the groundbreaking 1989 BBC documentary John's Not Mad, John's story may already be familiar. I Swear brings his experiences to a new generation and follows the extraordinary journey his life has taken since.

Windlesham Film Club - The Holdovers
A Christmas film with a little more bite – but plenty of heart.
For our final film of 2026, we're celebrating Christmas at Windlesham Film Club with something a little different.
Set during the Christmas holidays of 1970, The Holdovers takes us to a snowbound New England boarding school, where cantankerous teacher Paul Hunham (Paul Giamatti) has been given the unwelcome task of supervising the students who aren't going home for the holidays.
Eventually, just one student remains: Angus Tully (Dominic Sessa), a bright but troublesome teenager who has become used to feeling that he doesn't quite belong. Joining them is the school's cook, Mary Lamb (Da’Vine Joy Randolph), who is facing a particularly difficult Christmas following the loss of her son.
Thrown together in an almost deserted school, the three make an unlikely festive trio.
But don't expect the usual picture-perfect Christmas story. The Holdovers is funny, bittersweet and sometimes deliberately uncomfortable. It recognises that Christmas can bring stresses, difficult family relationships, loneliness and memories of those who are missing, as well as celebration.
Gradually, though, something begins to change. Behind the arguments, sarcasm and misunderstandings, these three very different people start to see beyond their first impressions of one another.
The film strikes a wonderful balance between its more painful moments and some genuinely heart-warming ones, finding humour and kindness without becoming overly sentimental. Add its snowy setting and wonderfully nostalgic 1970s atmosphere and you have a Christmas film that feels both refreshingly different and reassuringly seasonal.
Starring Paul Giamatti, Da’Vine Joy Randolph and Dominic Sessa, this is a warm, witty and beautifully observed story about loneliness, friendship and finding connection in unexpected places.
Join us for The Holdovers and one final Film Club night together before Christmas.
