Windlesham Film Club Presents Rosalie — A Story of Hope and Self-Acceptance
Friday 14th November 2025, 7:30pm – Windlesham Club & Theatre
France, 1870. Rosalie is a young woman with a secret. She was born with a face and body covered in hair — a genuine bearded lady. For years, she has hidden her difference from the world, shaving daily to appear “normal” and protect herself from society’s judgement.
Her life changes when she marries Abel, a bar owner struggling with debt, who sees in Rosalie a chance to save his business through her dowry. But Abel knows nothing of her secret. When Rosalie chooses to stop concealing who she is, her courage to live openly challenges both her husband’s understanding of love and society’s perception of beauty and worth.
Rosalie (2023) is a beautiful and bold French drama from director Stéphanie Di Giusto, starring Nadia Tereszkiewicz and Benoît Magimel. Based loosely on the true story of Clémentine Delait — the famed early 20th-century “bearded lady” who defied convention — the film offers a poignant reflection on identity, acceptance, and the freedom to be oneself.
This acclaimed French-language film (with English subtitles) runs for 1 hour 55 minutes.
